Charles Gomes Casseres AWARD
Charles Gomes Casseres joined the Club in 1948 and remained an outstanding member for the rest of his life: a member for some 58 years, by far the longest-serving member ever and a record that is unlikely ever to be matched. Even more importantly, Charlie was over the years the most dedicated member of our Club-- a man who was always involved, enthusiastic, and upon whom one could rely. Charlie was a shining example to us all of a great Rotarian who brought dignity and warmth to everything he did. The Club misses him enormously but, equally, we will be forever thankful that we had the good fortune to have Charlie as a fellow Rotarian for so many years.
He was also a guardian of RCC-history. The memory book of 50 years was one of outstanding quality. Also the father of our Banner made of Goatskin by the Social Handicraft Institution of Santa Martha.
Charlie passed away in September 2006. In his memory the Club instigated the Charles Gomes Casseres award to be given annually on Charlie’s birthday (30th January) to someone or some organization in the community who has, like Charlie, shown outstanding service.
The recipients are chosen by Charlie’s family in conjunction with Rotary Club of Curaçao and so far have been:
