Busproject

Going Strong for 50 years!
“Every child should get a chance to get to know her or his island better.”
Rotarian Huub Bongers once said. Huub noticed that many children never made trips to parts of the island outside their immediate living surroundings,---some children had never even seen the sea!
He therefore, with a number of other Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Curacao, started the Rotary Bus Project on December 18, 1974. The idea was to every two weeks bring children of the basic schools to a nice destination of their choice.
From 2021 onwards, the children are being picked up in a tour bus, a luxury air-conditioned tour bus because they often see tourists driving around in these buses but usually they never did. You should see the anticipation on their faces when such a bus comes to pick them up at their school!
The idea has always remained the same, namely to give the children an educational & fun experience combined with a snack and a drink! Children come to places on our beautiful island where they have never been before!
The Rotary Bus Project, that has now become a tradition has by now brought more than 28,500 children to all sorts of destinations!.
A big thank you goes to attractions such as the Children's Museum, the Hato Caves, Carmabi and the Ostrich Farm, which often have a social entrance fee, as well as to the bus companies such as FTBB (Taber), Blue Angel Tours, TM tours and also to the Rotary Bus Project Team - Aschia Daswani, Hans van Aalst, JanPieter Herwijer, Zaid Tjang A Tjoe, Heidi Getrouw, Gwido Jansen and all the fellows who sometimes accompany the tours but also donate weekly to make the tours possible!

A Day Full of Wonder and Discovery!
This morning, (October 7th 2024) Rotary Club of Curaçao treated 86 children from Glorieux School to a fun and educational trip to the Ostrich Farm at St. Joris! 🦩🐊 The kids were thrilled to see ostriches, crocodiles, and other fascinating animals, all while enjoying the beauty of our island.
At least once a month, Rotary Club of Curaçao organizes these fun and educational trips, providing luxury coach transportation, entrance fees, drinks, and snacks. It's all about creating smiles and unforgettable moments!
A thanks to Rotary fellows Lusette Verboom and Halder Lam, who accompanied the bus committee (Aschia Daswani, Hans van Aalst, Jan Pieter Herwijer, Arnoud Vossen, and Gwido Jansen) for this trip and of course bus companies TMC Curacao & Taber Tours and the Ostrichfarm for facilitating!
It's always a joy to see the children’s smiles! On to the next adventure!

Huub Bongers
Huub joined RCC in 1971 and was a member and honorary member for 42 years until he passed away in 2013. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and held the post of club president in 1987 - 1988. We miss Huub, but remember him every week at the RCC lunch meeting when we hold a raffle to raise funds for Huub's bus project.
In 2018 we celebrated the 800th Fun Ride!
