Former member Ole Hansen passed away.
This is what Rudy Dovale has to say about our former member:
I was living in
the apartment on Julianaplein next to the Welhous Family. Ole became my
roommate for 6 months or more. I soon learned that Ole was a person
that could do anything he put his mind to. He decided very early on,
that Lennie was going to be his wife. So it didn’t take him long to win
her over… and Lennie didn’t stutter when she said yes. I know, because I
was Ole’s best man! ..................

Ole decided to be a scuba diver he became so professional that the Police department was calling on him regularly to dive and bring up a drowned victim from the deep!
Ole loved music. So, together with Joe Henselaar on piano, and Ed van Kleij on the drums and Ole on trumpet and bass he founded an excellent combo called the Emmatown Ragtime Stompers. They played anytime, anywhere, for anybody…and, they played Stompingly well!On call, Ole would play the U.S. Military Taps on his trumpet for our American Legion ceremonies. He joined The Rotary Club of Curacao, and in no time he was our Secretary…and the following year he was our President. That same year he drove his car on the ferry to Maracaibo, and drove up and over the Venezuelan Andes and on into Colombia to officiate in the Districts first International Conference.
In a fire in their home on Caracaraweg, Ole was severely burned. Taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, and while lying in a bathtub, covered with icy brine, he said, “don’t worry, I’ll be as good as new in no time”. Here again, he was true to his word…he was back on the job in record time.
Did I forget to tell you that Ole flew a Spitfire fighter plane for the Royal Danish Air Force? Well, he did! And in Curacao, he continued to serve his Queen and his Country as the Honorary Danish Consul for several decades…and only recently turning the post over to his cracker jack daughter, Christie.
In between, he did Spritzer & Fuhrmann a favor by recruiting Nic Moller to join S&F in Curacao. By the way, look at Nic Moller now, and see what he has meant to the Curacao Tourism sector! What a contribution to Curacao, Ole made there!
I guess Ole’s most amazing accomplishment was his unfailing loyalty and dedication to his mentor and patron, Ishu Fuhrmann. Ishu, as you all know, was a person most people could hardly get along with. Ole stuck it out, and was Ishu’s Golden Boy for over 35 years.
What I do know, is that my ole buddy Ole, enriched my own life in countless ways. He taught me to appreciate Jazz, and ceramics and crystal and Danish Silver…he even taught me how to drink Aquavit…or rather how not to drink Aquavit!
Ole you will always be with me. Rest in Peace, Ole, ole Buddy. Rest in Peace.
